Papá do Pegada

A samba circle renewed at every gathering

papadopegada 005 (1)

O Papá do Pegada It is an ongoing, authorial samba circle led by Pegada de Gorila, established as a space for gathering, listening, and collective celebration of samba. Held monthly, the project brings together musicians, invited artists, and audiences in an open roda format, where repertoire, improvisation, and exchange create a living and shared experience.

More than an event, Papa do Pegada reaffirms the samba circle as a cultural practice in motion — a place where samba circulates, transforms, and remains alive through shared experience and collective memory.

At each edition, Pegada de Gorila opens the circle and welcomes samba and choro artistscreating encounters marked by attentive listening, respect for tradition, and musical freedom. The circle is shared, without rigid hierarchies, strengthening exchange between different generations, trajectories, and musical languages.

The gathering is also shaped by care and shared experience. The papa — the traditional galinhada, prepared on the day — is made by Fernando Macaco e Fezinho, reinforcing the collective nature of the project, where music, food, and presence move forward together.

Over time, Papa do Pegada has become a reference point for those who follow the samba scene, establishing itself as a much-anticipated monthly gathering for both musicians and audiences.
